Special Notice - Course Availability

Recently, the Vermont Department of Health has been stepping up enforcement in regards to Essential Maintenance Practices which has caused a large increase in the number of people wishing to attend our EMP trainings.

Registration is on a first come – first serve basis. We ask if you register for a class that you make every effort to attend because others are on waiting lists for each class. If you register for a class and do not attend, your name will go to the bottom of the list for future classes.

VHCB Lead Program

75% of Vermont’s lead poisoning cases occur in rental homes. In response, the Vermont legislature passed Act 165, the "Essential Maintenance Practices" or EMP law. Known as Vermont’s Lead Law, Act 165 requires that landlords or their property managers follow the EMPs to maintain painted surfaces in rental properties built before 1978.

A free EMP course not only covers what you need to know— but also provides additional protection from prosecution. Information covered in the classes includes:

The requirements of Vermont’s lead paint law and related federal regulations
The health effects of lead in children and adults
Lead-safe work practices and maintenance procedures
Specialized cleaning techniques and equipment for removing lead-contaminated dust
